Eddie Catz helps parents facing the credit crunch and lobbies Government

21st May 2008
Many parents are finding it too expensive to keep their children active and entertained in the current credit crunch market, which is why Eddie Catz playcentre is offering its customers a MEMBERSHIP that allows unlimited access any day of the week to both of its Southwest London locations: Putney and Wimbledon. Membership cost £60 for any three consecutive months and £110 for any given year. The best part is adults visit for FREE and siblings get a 10% discount. Eddie Catz finds parents are enquiring about summer activities as a many have forfeited foreign travel this year in an effort to cut back on expenditure. Eddie Catz is the only playcentre in the Southeast of England offering such a deal.

Today Darren Johnson, brainchild of Eddie Catz and Board Member of the Play Providers Association (PPA) attended a Westminster briefing at the Commonwealth Club on the government's paper "The Children's Plan: delivering excellence, equity, health and happiness for children ages 0 to 19". On behalf of the industry he asked Kevin Brennan, MP Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Children, Young People and Families, if the government was willing to subsidise children's playtime in indoor playcentres in the hopes of making indoor play more accessible to a wider part of the community, critical especially in the current economy. The indoor play industry currently receives no government support or VAT tax relief. The government is about to invest £235 million on outdoor play but the indoor play providers currently fulfil a lot of the targets the government are trying to achieve (i.e. controlled risk taking, parent interaction, physical activity for children).

Eddie Catz was founded three years ago by London parents Darren and Maria Johnson in an aim to provide a good quality play facility for children under 0 to 9 yrs with an educational undertone where kids can have fun while their parents relax. They opened the second Eddie Catz in Wimbledon in May of this year and plan further expansion.
